CARE

I make my items with the intention that they will be cherished for a long time so that means care is important, here’s a little info about how to care for your item. If you have any more questions please contact me.

Silk items:

For general cleaning:

Silk is best washed by hand with a mild detergent or soap in lukewarm water. Rinse well and squeeze out surplus moisture by rolling in a towel and then laying flat to dry. Allow silk to dry fully before ironing, only use the iron on it’s silk setting. Avoid using the steam setting on the iron as water can spit out and create water marks. If the silk gets a water mark, then dip the whole item in warm water for 2-3 minutes, and let dry. Never boil, bleach, wring or leave silk crumpled. Keep silk out of strong sunlight.

For stains: Treat the stain as soon as possible, a set stain is more difficult to remove. Follow these steps:

  1. Gently blot the area with a paper towel or clean white cloth to draw out as much of the stain as possible.

  2. Make a gentle silk stain remover out of a couple of tablespoons of either white vinegar or lemon juice, mixed with a couple of tablespoons of lukewarm water, dab the stain with it using a clean, white cloth. Be gentle as rubbing silk too vigorously can damage the fabric and make the fibers fluff up.

  3. Wash item as normal

If these suggestions don’t work take to a dry cleaner.

Cotton Velvet items:

For general cleaning:

Velvet is best washed by hand with a mild detergent or soap in lukewarm water. Rinse well and squeeze out surplus moisture by rolling in a towel and lay flat to dry. Steam is velvet’s best friend, hang item and gently steam making sure to not go too close to the item to avoid splatters or marks. It’s best not to iron velvet but if you must, always place a fluffy cotton towel over the velvet and iron through the towel using steam. Never place iron directly onto velvet as this can damage the pile. Never boil, bleach, wring or leave velvet crumpled. Keep out of strong sunlight.

For stains: Treat the stain as soon as possible, a set stain is more difficult to remove. Follow these steps:

  1. Gently blot the area with a paper towel or clean white cloth to draw out as much of the stain as possible.

  2. Using a moist white cloth, brush the fabric in direction of velvet pile. If the stain isn’t lifting use a very small amount of mild detergent and gently dab in the direction of the pile. If soap is used, use a damp cloth to carefully dab away any excess soapy residue.

  3. If necessary, wash item as normal

If these suggestions don’t work take to a dry cleaner.

Other Cotton Fabrics:

Cotton is a fairly low maintenence fabric. As with all my items I only recommend washing by hand because hand washing because my bags often have padding and linings that can get disrupted by washing machines and hand washing is less harsh longterm
